FILM SYNPOSIS

In My Day is a black and white drama about a young white woman, Michelle, who is deeply in love with her boyfriend Asif. But, the local skinheads in the city and her parents in the countryside aren’t accepting of the relationship. The true reason for their hostility is only  at the end.

THE FACTS

  • In My Day was shot in a 4 Day shoot across countryside and Urban brutalist locations and was shot on an Arri Alexa Mini

  • This is director William Grave’s fourth short film, after his previous films have won at international film festivals, including the Tennessee International Indie Festival, Skiptown International Film festival in LA, and the London Independent Film Festival.

  • The brutalist backdrop of the Roehampton Estate for the opening scene was chosen as brutalism architecture could come from the 60s, the present or the future. The whole film, from costume, location and set design, was inspired by it being potentially the past, the present or the future.

  • Black & white and the 4:3 aspect ratio was chosen by the director to create an era-less feel to the film where the audience cant quite place when it is set.

  • There are dozens of easter eggs planted across the film that hint and build towards the end of the film, including far right posters from the future, which strongly reward a second viewing of the film.

  • The film stars Omar Hashmi (Asif), Lauren Clancey (Michelle), Ian Ray White (Michelle’s Father) Julie Wood (Michelle’s mother), Merelina Kendall (Michelle’s Grandmother)- who starred in 1984 and Billy Elliot, Hector Bateman-Harden (Michelle’s brother), Kane Surry (Skinhead1) & Sam King (Skinhead 2), Matt Hansen (friend of Asif) and Lauren Bow (friend of Michelle)

  • To make the last shot of the film work, our lead actor Omar trained for months using specific breathing techniques to hold his breath for a minute and 45 seconds.

  • To create a purposely painful to watch and almost real-time dinner scene, the scene was shot over a whole day.

  • Vogue Fashion designer Andrew Majtenyi  was brought on board to design an era-less costume for the character that were influenced by different eras.
